Gale West

As an expert in social survey research methods and statistical analyses, she is mostly works on food production and consumption issues. She recently studied Canadian consumer perceptions of conjugated linolëic acids (CLA) in milk and other milk products, as well as the attitudes, knowledge and recommendations of Quebec family doctors and nutritionists to consume functional foods and nutraceuticals, including milk products with CLA or probiotics. Among her current research projects are two separate studies of dairy producer responses to the presence of iodine in milk and to using genomic testing to breed healthier cows.

Dr. West received her doctorate in Sociology from Iowa State University. She has been a professor of Consumer Sciences in the Agriculture Faculty at Laval University since 1992. She teaches courses both on Food Consumption and Aging and Consumption, and is a researcher affiliated with both CREATE (Center for Aesearch in Agri-food Economics) and the Institut des nutraceutiques et des aliments fonctionnels (INAF) at Laval University.
